The Democrats have made one thing perfectly clear: they really, really, REALLY hate Donald Trump. Apparently there is great JOY in hating somebody so much – at least for some people.
And the reason is pretty simple. Donald Trump is all that stands between them and their ultimate objective: a socialist America where you will have absolute freedom to do whatever THEY WANT you to do.
Their biggest problem is that most people can remember four years ago. Most people can remember that under Republican policies – including one of the biggest tax cuts in American history and THE greatest REGULATORY RELIEF in American history – we had achieved the lowest unemployment rate in 50 years; the lowest poverty rate in 60 years, and the fastest wage growth in 40 years. Our border was secure – illegal border crossings were at a 40-year low. The world was at peace. America was energy INDEPENDENT for the first time in our lifetimes. And on the day Donald Trump left office, gasoline averaged $2.39 a gallon, inflation was 1.4 percent and a 30-year mortgage cost 1.9 percent.
And on their FIRST day in office, Biden and Harris reversed all of the policies that had produced this prosperous time in our lives.
They rescinded the remain in Mexico policy, they ordered a halt to the border wall and they ordered ICE to stop enforcing court ordered deportations and unleashed the worst illegal mass migration in history that has consumed our resources and exposed our people to the most vicious and violent gangs, terrorists and crime cartels in the world.
They declared a moratorium on oil and gas exploration and began a war on fossil fuels that has gouged American families with record high prices for gasoline, electricity, heating oil and natural gas.
Kamala Harris personally cast the deciding votes on $3 trillion of reckless spending that unleashed the worst inflation in 40 years and robbed every American family of more than 20 percent of their dollar’s purchasing power.
Their unprecedented profligacy has run up the worst debt in our history, and today, interest payments on that debt now exceed our entire defense budget.
Their botched withdrawal from Afghanistan and their craven pandering to Hamas has emboldened a new Axis of Evil that is now moving aggressively throughout the world.
They’ve weaponized our justice system, using it to harass and intimidate ordinary Americans because of their political beliefs, targeting everyone from parents who protest at school board meetings to Catholics holding traditional views of their faith. And for the first time in American history, a presidential administration is abusing our legal system in order to jail its opposition.
Their cultural Marxism that divides people by race has ignited racial divisions and virulent antisemitism that are now exploding into violence on college campuses and city streets.
You can’t say they haven’t accomplished anything.
Their entire campaign is crafted for the single purpose of avoiding the central question Americans will answer in 44 days: “Are you better off today than you were four years ago?”
That question is so powerful because it’s a question they CANNOT SPIN. Everyone knows how they’re doing in their own lives. Ronald Reagan asked that question in 1980 after four years of the same Democratic policies of shortage, inflation and malaise. Republicans won in a landslide. And four years later, after Republican policies had produced morning again in America, Reagan repeated his question and won in an even bigger landslide.
We have based our entire form of government on the assumption that when people are paying attention, they generally make good decisions. That is a sound assumption and we should take confidence in it. The choice before ALL of us – as AMERICANS – is not between candidates or even between parties. It’s not even, as Gov. Sanders put it, between normal and crazy.
It’s a very simple choice between policies that work and policies that don’t work – and we can clearly and vividly see the two side by side as we reflect on the Trump and Biden-Harris administrations.
This is not a theoretical discussion. We have two administrations back to back with very different policies that produced very different results. The Republican policies of low taxes, light regulations, secure borders, open consumer choice, unfettered freedom of speech, strong national defense produced an era of prosperity and international stability. The Democratic policies of high taxes, crushing regulations, open borders, endless consumer mandates, growing censorship and deteriorating defense has delivered us into this dystopian world of rising poverty and international crises. This isn’t theory or empty promises. This is the story of the last eight years we’ve just lived through.
The simple fact of the matter is that the entire history of human civilization can be summed up in just four words: Freedom Works. Socialism Sucks.
And that is the fundamental choice that is before us in this election. Freedom or socialism.
The Democrats are trying to gaslight us now, saying that they are the true party of freedom because they advocate the freedom to abort a perfectly healthy baby right up until the moment of birth.
NOT the freedom to enjoy the fruit of your own labor; NOT the freedom to express your opinions without fear of intimidation or censor; NOT the freedom to raise your children according to your own values; NOT even the freedom to decide what kind of car you will drive, what appliance you can buy, what kind of lightbulbs you can use. Those are all freedoms they have already denied Americans.
This is not a new tactic for them. They tried it in Lincoln’s time. And this is how he answered them. He said, “The world has never had a good definition of the word liberty, and the American people, just now, are much in want of one. We ALL declare for liberty; but in using the same word we do not ALL mean the same thing. With some, the word liberty may mean for each man to do as he pleases with himself, and the product of his labor; while with others the same word may mean for some men to do as they please with other men, and the product of other men’s labor. Here are two, not only different, but incompatible things, called by the same name, liberty. And it follows that each of the things is, by the respective parties, called by two different and incompatible names–liberty and tyranny.”
And that’s the fine point of the matter and the choice before Americans today.
In 1848, Alex de Toqueville defined precisely the nature of the evil we are up against. He said, “The trait which best describes socialists of all schools and shades, is a profound opposition to personal liberty and scorn for individual reason, a complete contempt for the individual. They unceasingly attempt to mutilate, to curtail, to obstruct personal freedom in any and all ways. They hold that the State must not only act as the director of society, but must further be master of each man, and not only master, but keeper and trainer. For fear of allowing him to err, the State must place itself forever by his side, above him, around him, better to guide him, to maintain him, in a word, to confine him. They call, in fact, for the forfeiture, to a greater or lesser degree, of human liberty, to the point where, were I to attempt to sum up what socialism is, I would say that it was simply a new system of serfdom.”
So when Tim Walz says that socialism is neighborliness – he actually believes that. When Kamala Harris proposes the economic policies of Nicholas Maduro and Hugo Chavez – she actually believes that. When they have tolerated violent riots in our streets, ordered brutal and unconstitutional mass lockdowns of our people, squandered trillions of dollars of our earnings for their green energy grifters, released dangerous felons on our streets, opened our borders to criminal gangs and international crime cartels – remember what they stand for.
And when they try to tell us that’s all in the past and we should trust that they’ve just had a miraculous political epiphany, remember they are the same people who lied and lied and lied to us about Joe Biden’s condition until one fateful night when every American saw that they were lying.
Their entire convention showed a complete contempt for Democracy – nullifying an entire year of primary elections; taking extraordinary steps to keep opponents off the ballot and even subverting the rule of law to try to jail their opposition.
RFK Jr. – not exactly a movement conservative – sees this danger very clearly, because he has just lived it. And as he asked when he joined the Trump campaign, “Has there ever been a single instance in the entire history of the world, when the people trying to censor political speech – were the GOOD GUYS?
When people ask me, “What has happened to our country?” the answer is quite simple. If you voted for Biden and Harris and the Democrats four years ago, this is exactly what you voted for. And if you’re surprised by that, you weren’t paying any attention, because this is exactly what they promised to do; it is exactly what they have done; and it is exactly what they will keep doing until we stop them.
Just as you cannot drink yourself sober, you cannot spend yourself rich, or tax your way into prosperity, borrow your way out of debt.
Their economic policies of price controls, massive spending, taxes, borrowing, inflation, open borders, energy starvation and regulatory oppression that reaches into every aspect of our lives, have been the ruin of every city, every state and every country where they have taken control down through history.
Just look around. Wherever the Democrats have taken complete control of any city or any state, you see the same social, economic and political pathologies within the span of just a decade or two. You see sky-high taxes, chronic shortages and unaffordable prices for basic necessities like water, gasoline, electricity and housing. You see failing schools, rising crime, rampant homelessness, chronic unemployment, growing poverty, failing businesses and ultimately fleeing families.
They took over the most beautiful and prosperous cities of the 20th Century: San Francisco, Chicago, St. Louis, Baltimore, New York, Detroit, Los Angeles and in the span of just a few decades turned them into socialist hell-holes. They’re doing the same thing today to the states they control: Illinois, New York, and of course, our beloved California. Families are now voting with their feet as an unprecedented mass migration has begun to escape the failing states controlled by the Democrats to find refuge in the prospering states governed by Republicans.
If things get bad enough in California, there are 49 other states we can move to – as many of our neighbors already have. But if the left succeeds in taking over our country – where can we go?
But that’s not the real danger. As Trump and Reagan demonstrated, their ruinous economic policies can be turned around in just a few years. But if they succeed in taking majorities in the House, the Senate and the White House, they have already been crystal clear as to their agenda:
- They will pack the Senate with new states like Washington, D.C. – as many as they need for permanent control;
- They will pack the Supreme Court with new leftist activists – as many as they need for permanent control;
- They will rig the election laws as they have in California, severing the chain of custody between the voter and the ballot box;
- They will bypass the Electoral College with their Compact of the States, which Tim Walz already approved as Governor of Minnesota;
- And they will extend the vote to the millions of illegal aliens they have already released into our country, as they are already attempting to do in the jurisdictions they control.
There will be no turning back from then on. Elections after that won’t mean anything. These five steps will make them the permanent master of our society and of our lives.
On that day, the American Republic will pass into history. And that will be the saddest day for humanity in 2,000 years.
But Americans won’t let that happen. WE CAN’T let that happen.
Remember that just a few months ago, Kamala Harris was the only Democrat in the country LESS popular than Joe Biden. There was a reason for that and it can’t be buried under an avalanche of deceitful media coverage much longer. Although the polls show a tight race today, 61 percent of the American people believe our country is on the wrong track. It is inconceivable to me they would then vote to continue another FOUR years down that same wrong track. We see the same thing in California, by the way, “wrong track Democrats” – California Democrats who believe California is on the wrong track. That is a completely contradictory position they can’t maintain very long.
There’s a big difference between public opinion – that snap answer someone gives on the way to the dry-cleaners which tends to reflect whatever background noise is out there, and public judgment – what people actually believe when they have sat down and studied the issues. We’ve seen in election after election that polls shift in the last few weeks as families gather around the kitchen table and talk about how they’re actually going to vote.
Urban voters see their communities destroyed by rampant crime that their woke leaders refuse to prosecute. Ethnic voters see their communities saturated with illegal aliens that have overwhelmed the services they rely upon. Working voters are caught in wage stagnation as millions of cheap illegal laborers flood the market and Democrats’ inflation makes it harder to make ends meet. Catholic voters watch the woke left traduce their values as the Biden-Harris DOJ declares them to be potential “domestic extremists.” Jewish voters watch the virulent antisemitism rising on the left. And young voters are contemplating bleak economic futures as they spend their 20’s and 30’s in their parents’ basements.
These groups formed the core of the Democratic party for the last hundred years. But significant numbers of them are breaking off and regrouping into a new political coalition around the true banner of freedom and democracy.
Last year my niece moved from Chicago to Nashville. When I asked her what was the biggest change she noticed, she immediately answered, “The biggest difference that hits you the moment you arrive is that everybody in Nashville …. is happy.
Our state and our country have not been struck by some terrible act of God. These are all acts of government that we have the power to change the moment we summon the political will to do so. And in 44 days, that moment will come. On that moment, as Lincoln said, we shall either nobly save, or meanly lose, this, the last best hope of mankind on this earth.
