Press Releases › VIDEO SHOWS BROWN ATTENDED ANTI-WAR DEMONSTRATION IN UNIFORM
New video emerged today ending years of controversy over whether or not Charlie Brown attended an anti-war protest dressed in a military uniform. The video clearly shows Brown standing with anti-war demonstrators in front of a home where a soldier had been hanged in effigy.
Deborah Johns, mother of a Marine who served three tours of duty in Iraq, saw Charlie Brown that night (February 15, 2005). Brown's campaign told Politicker that “Brown attended the rally in a camouflage jacket and spoke with people on both sides of the rally before leaving.”
“Deborah Johns said she saw Brown clearly on the side of the anti-war protestors,” said McClintock for Congress Spokesman Bill George. “People supporting the troops were on one side of the street and anti-war demonstrators were on the opposite side of the street. Charlie wants to be on both sides of every issue, but on this occasion at least he actually took a side. Unfortunately for Charlie it was the radical leftist side with people like Cindy Sheehan and Sean Penn,” George said.
Brown has accused the McClintock Campaign of “outright lies and distortions.” But it’s Charlie Brown who lied about his actions that night, telling KFBK Radio Sacramento (Sept. 12, 2007) that “I was not in uniform” the night of the demonstration. Brown then went on to say he was not in “dress uniform” that night and now says he was in a “camouflage jacket.” The video clearly shows Brown in his uniform, his name stitched on the front. There can be no debate about what Charlie was wearing. The bigger question is why he was wearing it if he was just there, as he claims, as an observer with no point to make.
“Showing up in uniform sends the wrong message to our veterans and only helps groups like Code Pink promote their left-wing agenda,” Johns said.
The McClintock Campaign released a thirty-second TV commercial showing Brown at the rally. The ad will be seen on cable and broadcast outlets in the 4th Congressional District.
“Charlie Brown’s campaign has tried to dismiss this and said “case closed” in a recent statement. This commercial will get the message out to everyone in the 4th Congressional District about where Brown stands,” George said.
