Press ReleasesWishy-Washy Charlie Brown Flip Flops on Iraq

Calls for “Victory” in new radio spot

For more than two years Democrat Charlie Brown has released a barrage of statements, news releases and interviews about the War in Iraq. He has called for a “more limited mission,” “timetables for re-deployment” and “enforceable political benchmarks.” He opposed the surge. In a debate October 21, he said, “I have a quote form [General David] Petraeus in the office under plastic: ‘the threat of a troop pullout is useful.’”  From his days as an anti-war protestor aligned with Cindy Sheehan and Stephen Pearcy, Brown has left the clear and unwavering impression that he favors pulling out of Iraq as soon as possible. Now in a stunning reversal of his position, Brown says in a new radio commercial that he wants “our troops out of Iraq with victory.”

“Brown has consistently defied the administration and opposed those who have called for victory in Iraq,” said McClintock for Congress Communications Director Bill George. “His desperate last-minute flip flop is designed to mislead voters on his true feelings about the war. Charlie Brown has consistently attempted to deceive  the voters of the Fourth Congressional District about his positions on taxes, spending, off shore oil drilling and gay marriage. Now he has hypocritically changed his position on the war at the last moment in a desperate ploy for votes,” George said.

Tom McClintock's position has been clear and consistent; citing General Douglas MacArthur, McClintock says "there is no substitute for victory."
