Press ReleasesBrown Favors Taxpayer Subsidies for Billionaire Texas Oilman, Ignores District’s Hydroelectric Energy Potential

Tom McClintock favors energy policies that will increase the amount of gas, electric and hydrogen power  available to every American; Charlie Brown opposes these policies.

When Charlie lists the types of alternative energy he favors, he omits hydroelectric power. The cheapest and cleanest possible way to produce energy is from our dams. The Auburn Dam would generate 800 megawatts of electricity, enough for a million families, power that would be generated in the Fourth Congressional District. Charlie opposes the dam’s construction.

Charlie says he’s in favor of more drilling-but only on existing areas where drilling is currently allowed; most of that land has already been explored and found to be dry and the little that can be developed is being developed. According to PolitickerCA.com, “Brown opposed drilling for oil in areas where it isn’t already allowed, such as off the coasts of many states, including California.”

The Pickens’ plan has been criticized in the alternative energy arena. According to the San Francisco Business Times, “Clean technology venture capitalist Vinod Khosla slammed energy magnate T. Boone Pickens’ plan to boost natural gas vehicles to sever America’s dependence on oil as a dead end.  We shouldn’t do these interim dead-end technologies like natural gas. Let’s not spend public money at low rates of return.”

“Charlie should support policies that will create energy and jobs in Northeastern California, and not curry favor with a Texas oil and gas billionaire,” said Bill George, McClintock for Congress spokesman.
