Rep. Tom McClintock Named Lead Republican on the Water and Power Subcommittee
House Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Doc Hastings (WA-04) today named Rep. Tom McClintock (CA-04) as the new Ranking Member of the Water and Power Subcommittee. McClintock will take over the position from Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) who was recently selected to serve as Ranking Member of the Workforce Protections Subcommittee on the Education and Labor Committee.
“Rep. McClintock has shown tremendous dedication and leadership on a number of natural resources issues,” said Ranking Member Hastings. “As California faces a severe water crisis, it is more important than ever to have leaders in Congress, like McClintock, who understand the importance of having access to a stable and abundant water supply, especially for our agriculture and rural communities. I’m confident that McClintock will be a strong advocate for water users in California and throughout the West.”
“I’m honored to have been named as the ranking Republican on the Water and Power sub-committee of the House Natural Resources Committee,” said Rep. McClintock. “There is now a great debate in Congress over whether government will merely ration shortages that it has created or whether it will return to its traditional goal of promoting abundance through the development of our nation’s vast water and hydroelectric resources. This debate is of critical importance to the quality of life and prosperity of our nation and I am looking forward to taking an active role in it.
“I’m also grateful for Rep. McMorris Rodgers’ service on this Subcommittee,” continued Hastings. “As a senior Member of our Committee, she will continue advancing issues important to Eastern Washington and the Pacific Northwest.”
The Subcommittee on Water and Power is responsible for matters concerning America’s water resources, generation of electric power from federal water projects and interstate water issues. Republicans on the Subcommittee are devoted to promoting low-cost, clean, renewable and emissions-free hydroelectricity generated by federal dams and reservoirs. Republicans are also working to improve federal government regulations to ensure projects are less expensive, more transparent and not delayed by unnecessary red tape.

Student Loans
Thank you Congressman for speaking up on the floor of the House regarding the total takeover of the student loan program. This is another grab away from private institutions for the funding of college for students that had access to choice. Rep. George Miller could not answer questions with a straight face on Fox Business News this morning. Please keep up the fight to keep this type of legislation from getting passed. Now we need to make our Senators aware of the problems with this government takeover. Interesting what happens when we are concentrating on health care. Thanks again, Cheryl
California Law SB670 - Enacted on August 6, 2009
My husband and I have suction dredged on the Feather River in Northeastern California for the last 10 years. In that time, we have removed from the rivers countless pounds of lead, nails and other metals that are harmful to fish, and our environment. Our activities do NOT kill fish or other creatures. We certainly have enjoyed the beautiful canyon and we spend our summers looking for golden flakes and nuggets in this beautiful area of California. Our mining activities are guaranteed and protected by the Federal 1872 Mining Law.
Recently, SB670 was passed in the State of California which took away our rights to mine our valid mining claims. The Public Lands for the People are now appealing this law on the behalf of dredgers and they will be bringing this matter to the Federal government level.
Soon, this matter will be litigated at the federal government level and as you are the ranking member of the Water and Power Subcommittee, I would like to ask where you stand on this matter. What position do you currently have regarding this matter and what is your basis for that position?

your recent comment that State workers and their unions are the
Tom, I recently listened to a town hall meeting you did over the phone line. I voted for you because I thought you were the best candidate, however your blatant lies that state my union is the cause of the state budget woes are a real falsehood. As you know when Arnid took the first 10 percent from us the budget wasw 18 billion in the hole, 6 months later we are 26 billion in the hole. Now he wants 10 percent more. How is that hurting my union? I agreed to be a state worker for a certain salary long before Arnie came into office. It is ok for him to reap the benifits of his Union, but not ours?
If you want to fix the budget make the banks continue to pay the taxes on forclosed property.
Dont cut out the elderly and poor, cut out illegals. I listened to your version of how unions manipulated the state, I was a union representive and you could not be more wrong. I am not asking for anthing more than honesty in politics, where a man is only as good as his word. Arnie is upset because the unions attacked him, but I did not see GW get mad when the the TV celebs turned on him. Tom restore my faith in politics dont let an actor destroy the dreams of so many by tanking 20 percent from us

Unfortunately, Tom McClintock works for the federal government and has no role in California's budget process.
a union rep?
sorry Paul, your union and every other power-hungry union have done enough damage in California. You say you want honesty but then you call it lies when you hear it.
Tom, please disregard these irrational folks and keep up the good work. Dump the Unions!
