Rep. McClintock Stands with Doug Hoffman (NY-23)

By Jon Huey, on October 28, 2009

In the critical November 3rd special election for New York’s 23rd Congressional District, Rep. McClintock has endorsed the Conservative candidate, Doug Hoffman. Doug Hoffman believes in the Conservative values and principles which are sorely lacking in Washington.

Doug Hoffman shares Rep. McClintock’s opposition to the government takeover of our healthcare, the government bailout boondoggle, and Cap and Tax energy proposal. Doug has also signed the No New Taxes and the No Earmarks Pledge. Doug Hoffman stands as the real Conservative candidate in the race. In recent days polling is showing that Doug has pulled into the lead, but he needs your help to win

With this endorsement, Rep. McClintock has contributed the maximum amount to Doug Hoffman’s campaign. He is urging all of you to join with him in supporting Hoffman for Congress. The special election is next Tuesday, November 3rd and Doug Hoffman needs every dollar he can get as soon as possible.

Please join with Tom and contribute to Doug Hoffman’s campaign TODAY!

Tom,

I listen to talk radio quite a bit and I know it is fashionable to try to get the most conservative candidate elected as most conservatives are quite frustrated with moderate Republicans, but have you actually met and interviewed each of the two candidates before endorsing a non-traditional candidate from a minor party?

I know as an observer that candidates who are neither Republicans or Democrats can be quite popular with centrist voters, regardless of affiliation- they tend to independents and moderate Democrats. Even if they are labeled as "Conservative Party".

So if Hoffman gets elected, what is your long-term strategy? The novelty that helped get him elected will go away immediately if he joins the Republicans right away and runs for re-election as one. That happened in 1976 in New York state.

I would like it if you could address why Hoffman is so much of a better candidate than Scozzafava, regardless of their views on the one hot-button issue of abortion. I've seen mediocre candidates on both sides of the issue and watched them lose.

The district he hopes to represent is not quite as conservative as it once used to be and not as conservative as yours. Swing voters tend to be "pro-choice" however much I dislike that label and that movement now.

Conservative enthusiasm for Hoffman appears to be much  more motivated by dislike of moderates and their "accommodationist" style towards the opposition than whether or not the candidate is a great candidate with great ideas.

As one of the better versed and principled Republicans in the country, I would think you would be quite a great judge of such characteristics. Can you give a better set of reasons of why Scozzafava is disqualified from representing this district but Hoffman is the right one? I've watched him on television (briefly) and he strikes me as a novice. You could argue I am wrong about this, but I would like to hear an explanation.

Or maybe that's what all these independents like about him- that he doesn't sound as well versed as- well, you.

Nice try liberal.

You listen to talk radio but you dont hear. There is a movement in this country away from the dangerous politics of the liberals and Obama. Watch the election results on Tuesday.  Scozzafava is an unapologetic liberal. The proof is that she has now come out and endorsed the Democrat in the race. Word is she planned to switch parties after the election. The fact is that party bosses pick who will run in New York. Had there been a runoff she wouldn't have stood a chance. Face it; this is a center right country and Obama and his minions are sending voters scurrying back to elect people who more accurately reflect their beliefs. The Obama magic is gone; he was elected as the anti-Bush and that is not enough. Hope and change is becoming rope and chains.

Who do you think is the better choice Richard Faher, Linda Ackerman or Chris Norby?

We are pleased to see more and more are getting the message that whether or not you have a D,R.or I after your name means little. We want our representatives to have sound conservative principles and stop the insane spending that will and is destroying or country.Though a registered Republican so as to be able to vote in the primaries I am an independent, freedom loving, conservative Christian.I apologize to no one for being a patriotic American.

Congressman McClintock, This is great news.  Thank you for boldly upholding the Reagan Conservative Philosophy instead of blindly following the seemingly prevailing ‘moderate’ Republican Party line.  It is unfortunate the Republican Party currently subscribes to the notion that Reagan Conservatism  is ‘dead’ and elections can only be won with liberally moderate candidates.  We need to put ‘Philosophy before Party, Conservatism before Campaigning’– not vice versa.  Otherwise, there will be neither a resounding Conservative Philosophy nor contending Republican Party to withstand and ultimately conquer the Liberal Democrats’ expanding socialistic tyranny currently being inflicted on our just and great nation.

Yep. This was the message that was in the latest SPAM email I've received yet again from you people. I don’t know how many times I've unsubscribed from your list via the link provided at the bottom of your emails, but here I am still receiving them. Maybe if I try to make your SPAM practices public for everyone to see, it'll embarrass you enough to LEAVE ME ALONE! FFS, the media got bent the hell outta shape over the white house doing this same damn thing. Maybe alerting them to this should be my next stop.

It's easy to jump on the bandwagon when every other REAL conservative has paved the way for you.  Let's see who you support down here in CA's 42nd with the poster boy for what's wrong with the Republican party, Gary Miller.  Voted for the TARP bailout (when his constituents were calling in at 150 to 1 NOT to support it), voted for Barney Frank's Housing Bill (any wonder? Miller's a real estate developer), voted for Cash for Clunkers...  Will the Republicans continue to support the wrong candidate just like they're doing in NY's 23rd with their support of Scozzafava INSTEAD of Hoffman?  Down here, the Republican party wants to back Gary Miller, a guy who is consistently listed as one of the most corrupt members of Congress over a new, but very real, conservative in Lee McGroarty.  It's like Limbaugh said, it's almost as if the Republican party has it's own death wish.  Here's your test Mr. McClintock... let's see how you do.

Congressman McClintock...thank you for supporting conservative Doug Hoffman.  That is a wise move on your part.  Although it is a move that stands against the GOP, I do not take it as a slap in the face of the party.  The local party people failed to nominate a candidate that was any further right than the Democratic opponent.  Mr. Hoffman can now win and a statement can be made to both parties that conservatism is alive and well and no longer standing silent.

Thank you for doing the right thing.  In contrast, I hope you will support Christie in NJ and the Republican candidate in Virginia.  In those cases, the party has nominated a reasonably good candidate and they both have a chance to win.
