Rep. McClintock on Pres. Bush's Commutation of Ramos and Compean

By Jon Huey on January 20, 2009

Representative Tom McClintock issued the following statement on President Bush’s decision to free former Border Patrol officers Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean from prison:

“I am very pleased that President Bush acted to rectify one of the great injustices of our time: the imprisonment of former Border Patrol officers Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean.

Their imprisonment sent exactly the wrong message: that those on whom we count to defend the integrity of our border can be put behind bars for doing their jobs.”

Representative McClintock rose in the House last week to request pardons for the officers.

It is good to see that we have a voice of sound reason in congress. Congressman McClintock has been one of my favorite politicians since he ran for Governor. I applaud Tom's encouragement to pardon Ramos Compean!!

I was happy that President Bush commuted the sentences for Ramos and Compeon, but I think he should have given them a full pardon and reinstated them to their jobs. I wrote President Bush on several occassions and expressed my feelings to him about this. We need to stop pandering to Mexico and let them take care of their own problems. Too many of these illegal aliens that Mexico is encouring to come here illegally are causing crimes. We need to cut off our borders from them. At least Ramos and Compeon are now free. Let's support our law enforcement agents and put the criminals in jail.

Dear Tom,

Congratulations on being a leader in having ALL the House Republicans voting against Obama's PORK/stimulus bill.

Please tell us what we can do to see that the Senate pulls out everything in this bill that has nothing to do with stimulus and those things that will take 2-3 years to affect change if ANY. The public needs to become aware and do what we can to save our nation, not watch it go down in flames as California has!

Thank you for all you do. Keep up the good work!

From one who voted for you, the only sane voice, here in California,
Joan Malis
