Rep. McClintock Discusses The Bailout Proposal On Talk Radio

By Jon Huey on January 28, 2009

Rep. McClintock hit the talk radio circuit over the past several days talking about his opposition to President Obama's Bailout proposal.

Last Friday he appeared on KFI's John and Ken show.

I was called yesterday

By DFrost (not verified) on February 4, 2009

I was called yesterday evening for a supposed question and answer session with Rep. McClintock where he supposedly wanted to hear our views. Instead, what we got was a bunch of hooey. Rep. McClintock, you are entitled to your views, but we are entitled to ours. When a woman tried to express her views and encourage him to vote in favor of the economic "stimulus" package, all we heard was all the reasons he was against it. The FAILED BUSH policies cannot continue. You are elected to office by the people. You are supposed to represent the people...not yourself or the failed Bush policies. More of the same will no longer hold water. I was so disgusted as he would not let the woman get a word in edgewise (who's husband has just become unemployed) that I hung up. I know who I'm not voting for next time.

Yesterday, I received a telephone call inviting me to listen in/participate in a telephone forum. I usually hang up on these types of calls, but for whatever reason, found myself caught up in the discussion. I enjoyed listening, I did not participate, but would like to be included in other forums.

I am strongly against the so-called stimulus plan. I don't understand how reasonably, intelligent adults can possibly justify borrowing money to pass around, when it will absolutely not make a difference to the mess our economy is in.

I will soon be 71 years old, am still working a full time job, our house is paid for, and we will have funds to live on, (providing we don't live more than 30 years) which we have planned for. Our goal is to not depend on our children, or welfare to take care of us. In the event we should need help, our children are ready to step in and not expect the government to provide it.

This nation has been good to us. But in return, we have done our best to be good, law abiding citizens, pay our taxes, and do not expect more than we have given.

Please, please, try to talk some sense into Washington! We need to take care of our country, not be indebted into a foreign nation!

I was born and raised in Glendale, Ca and moved to No. Calif. 30 years ago as a result of the bussing programs iniatiated by our then governor, Jerry Brown. Also, the beginning of the end of California as a great state of live in.

It's getting tiresome hearing

By Greg (not verified) on February 7, 2009

It's getting tiresome hearing everything blamed on Bush. Bush didn't cause the housing bubble or the bank collapse that drove this recession - left wing "affordable housing" policies that were imposed on the banks did that. Policies which Bush among others tried and failed to reform. He wasn't at all vocal enough, but he's hardly the key villain here.

I do however blame him for signing too many spending bills. We need to purge the big spenders out of our party, and I hope conservatives like McClintock can re-establish our credibility. McClintock is the best voice for conservative principles that I've heard in years, and I hope he gets himself noticed in Washington.

re: Shirley Hackert,
Instead of imposing an arbitrary 22 student rule, I'd prefer we worry about ending the system of "separate but equal" schools. It's offensive that a student's opportunity is dictated by what school district they live in. This is a civil rights issue at odds with union interests. The Democrats have consistently sided with the latter.

Parents should have freedom of choice in their children's education, without being forced to pay double tuition for the privilege. The schools' government protected monopoly status, and corresponding excess of central regulation, are the fundamental reasons they operate so poorly. If schools were competitive and able to adjust their own budgets, then we wouldn't need to micromanage student-teacher ratios or other such details.
The current system serves nobody except the teachers, who enjoy perfect job security.

Keep up the good fight, Tom.

Keep up the good fight, Tom. This is about of good vs. evil and right vs. wrong. Our represenatives need to decide which side of the line they are on. There isn't a middle gound or possible compromise. For far too long, many conservatives have slowly sold out and moved towards the left. They compromised, but the leftist never did. For those conservatives who compromised for the sake of compromise, they let us down. There is no compromise with mean-spirted, morally defunct leftist. Let there be no doubt about it, the goal of the left is not to compromise, there goal is to destroy the conservative principles and values that made this country great. For those who try to sit on the fence or tow the middle ground, the time has come to remember who you are and where you came from. God bless this country and great Americans like Tom who are fighting for what he believes in.

I assume that our new Congressman is going to fight for the 4th District's share of the stimulus bill funds, and the resulting new 4th District jobs that it has created, even though he voted against the bill, and even though doctrinaire Republican governors and politicians are threatening to refuse their state's share of the funds. If he answers this question in the negative, he should immediately be recalled. But then again, maybe he is going to "fight" for his home District's funds, ie Orange County, and just let the 4th twist in the wind.

Tom,
Please work with our elected president to get our country out of the mess made by Bush these past 8 years. Think of our country, forget your self.
We need better education for our children. A class room should have no more than 22 students per teacher. Work toward that goal and you will be on the right track for improving things.
Best regards,
Shirley

Mr. McClintock,

Thank you for what happened today. Thank you for being a conservative
and staying true to your ideals and our country ideals. It's going to be a rough four years for us but with people like you we will get through it.

Again thanks for not voting today for the bailout.

Congratulations to you, Tom,

Congratulations to you, Tom, and your fellow Republican congressmen on a heroic unanimous vote against this destructive bill which in effect permanently raises the baseline budget for our nation by 30%. This will take decades of hard work to reverse (if it ever can be reversed) but at the very least you have the ability to wash your hands of the inevitable disastrous results.

Bravo.

I received an e-mail from Newsmax that stated a great deal of money in Obama's stimulus package was to be given to Acorn (several millions or more). Is this true? If so, it should be stopped! If it isn't true, Newsmax should be cited for trying to raise money under false pretenses as they are asking for donations to help stop Acorn from receiving this money.
Sincerely,
