Quarter-closing: Can I ask for your help this week?
As the battle over America's finances continues to rage, I have been thinking of Churchill's warning to the British government as it drifted into mortal peril: "We must act decisively...and we must act now... If we do not, history will cast its verdict with those terrible, chilling words, 'too late.'"
The events of the last few months have convinced me that without another 2010-sized victory in 2012, our country will face that terrible and chilling verdict.
I remember when Ronald Reagan was running for President and the Republican Party had a poster with Reagan in a white hat riding his horse. The poster said: "Hang in there America, the Republicans are coming." And we did. We restored freedom and prosperity at home and we restored our nation's strength and standing in the world.
The awful truth is that we ultimately lost the Reagan revolution from within the Republican Party before we lost it to the Democrats. We can't let that happen again.
And that fight for the soul of our party is all the more challenging in a re-apportionment year, because of the changing district lines. The new reapportionment means that fully one-fourth of my congressional district is comprised of voters who don't know me, and that means I'll need to take our message of individual freedom and limited government to them.
The next financial report will close on September 30th, and how I perform will have tremendous implications for the challenges I may face in the primary election.
A strong report would cement my position in the new district, while anything less could well sound a dinner bell to those who would push our party and our country to the left.
Could I count on your most generous contribution of $50, $100, $250 or even the legal maximum of $2,500 to help us raise an additional $15,000 and assure the strongest financial report possible?
Thank you for everything you have done for me and our cause.
