First Speech to the House - Pardon Ramos and Compean

By Jon Huey on January 15, 2009

Here is the text of Rep. McClintock's first speech on the floor of the House of Representatives.

Mr. Speaker:

I rise today to express my hope that this President will not leave office before using his pardon to correct one of the great injustices of our time: the imprisonment of Border Patrol officers Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean.  They’re the officers who wounded a drug smuggler as he tried to escape.  The drug smuggler got immunity; Ramos and Compean got lengthy prison sentences.

This injustice sends a chilling message to Border Patrol officers who are heroically trying to defend the integrity of our borders against enormous odds and with inadequate resources.
It cannot be allowed to stand.

Thanks for bringing the border agent issue to the fore.

The White House comment line at 202-456-1111 only accepts messages between Monday-Friday 9-5 pm eastern time.

They really don't want to hear from us. -(Just send us your money).

When you really want to serve customers, as in a business, you contract for a 24 hour, 7 day a week answering service -at least.

If I can get a Hamburger and a coffee at 3 am and have 24 hour Drain service and phone service and electricity 24 hours a day, then I want the White House to at least accept a RECORDING of my call during West coast business hours.

To have a critical Federal office as the White House, that is ONLY available while most citizens are trying to earn the money to pay the taxes is the height of arrogance.

And forget about the West coast. You had better plan to call before 2 pm Pacific Daylight Time- in the middle of your work day.
This type of BS operation has got to stop.

Yeah, I know email works 24/7. But it's easy to ignore email.

I think the staff needs to hear it directly with their own ears.
